How much daily cost?
The unit of currency used in Indonesia is the rupiah (Rp). Coins of 50Rp, 100Rp, 200Rp, 500Rp and 1000Rp are in circulation. Notes come in 2000Rp, 5000Rp, 10,000Rp,
20,000Rp, 50,000Rp and 100,000Rp denominations. For change in amounts below 50Rp, expect to receive a few sweets. Try to carry a fair amount of money in bills
20,000Rp and under as getting change for larger bills is often a problem. Indonesia is one of the world's favorite budget travel destinations. Here's what you can
roughly expect to pay for a:
Dec - Feb
Street food snack = 2,000 IDR , Water bottled = 3,000 IDR
Fresh juice = 5,000 IDR
Bottle of beer in a bar = 30,000 IDR
Souvenir sarong = 25,000 IDR
Dinner in a restaurant = 40,000 IDR
Tipping a set percentage is not expected in Indonesia, but if the service is good, it’s appropriate to leave 5000Rp or 10% or more.
- Hand cash directly to individuals if you think they deserve recognition for their service.
- Tip good taxi drivers, guides, people giving you a massage or fetching you a beer on the beach etc; 5000Rp to 10,000Rp is generous.
- There are several times during the trip where there is opportunity to tip the local guides or drivers we use. You may do this individually, or your Local Leader will offer to collect the money and tip as a group. Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides would range from $1.5-$3.5 USD (20.000 IDR- 40.000 IDR) per person per day depending on the quality and length of the service; ask your Leader for specific recommendations based on the circumstances and culture. Also at the end of each trip if you felt your Naked As We Are leader did an outstanding job, tipping is appreciated. The amount is entirely a personal preference, however as a guideline $20-25 USD (200.000 IDR – 250.000 IDR) per person.
